THOUGHTS FROM YOUR SCRA PRESIDENT

 Dear Members:

As we start the 2006 year for Scare Canyon Ranch Association, have you as a member taken the time lately to reflect on how the ranch used to be years ago, where it is now and where you would like to see it in the future?

Years ago the roads that existed were limited and in rather poor condition.  There were few, if any structures on the properties and almost no fences or gates.  It was a good hunting area and that was its primary use.

Now we have good main roads that are maintained by the association, and many more roads which individuals have on their property.  We have water available at specific locations for member use.  The hunting has really declined and is no longer the primary function provided by the ranch and the association.  There are numerous structures and family cabins on the ranch which members like to enjoy.  They do not want to hear the loud sounds of motorcycles running up and down the main roads nor do they want ATVs exploring all over their property.  They do not want people camping on their property and leaving all kinds of trash when they leave and they do not want hunters within 600 feet of their cabin who may get “trigger” happy or have an accident.

As we look to the future of the ranch/association, what do you want to see?  Where and how would you like to see us proceed?  Restrictions are an inevitable consequence of the future, however, how soon and how drastic these restrictions come can be governed by responsibility and common sense.

                        Sincerely…..Derek Hunwick

With this letter you will find a current listing of your board members, assigned areas of responsibility and contact numbers.  Please direct concern or inputs to the person who is responsible for that area, or to their vice president.

The ranch/association has a web site, www.scarecanyon.com.  You will be able to review board minutes and general meeting minutes approximately one week after their official approval.  Remember the State of UT and Cache County control when we can utilize the water, (on 1 June and off 1 November).  Do not attempt to tamper with the water systems we have in place….you will not like the consequences.

It would be great if members would take the time to make a rough sketch of their property identifying lot number, size and approximate location of any structures.  This information could be used to update our old maps of the ranch.

During the two board meetings we have had so far this year we have approved:

1.        Keeping the dues at $80.00 when paid on time.

2.        Funding for stickers, stamps, web site, envelopes etc.

3.        $6000.00 to purchase gravel and start spreading it from Ant Flat road as soon as weather permits.

4.        Issuing four vehicle decals and two visitors passes to paid SCRA members.  Again I would like to remind everyone that you should have decals on all vehicles (including your motorcycles and ATV’s).

There has been considerable discussion at the two SCRA board meetings regarding the problems of trespassing, hunting and security. The following are some ideas we are evaluating:

1.        Reducing number of hunting permits.

2.        Charging for the hunting permits and using the monies to fund a law official to patrol and issue citations.

3.        Denying hunting permits to violators for a given period of time.

Funding a law official to randomly patrol the ranch during non-hunting and issue citations.  This would mean if a person does not have a sticker/pass displayed on their vehicle/machines they would be cited.  PLAY IT SAFE, purchase enough decals and put on your machines.  The patrol officer will not know who you are without them!!!!!!  The officer will also give a citation if anyone is caught trespassing on an individual’s property.
