November Newsletter

SCRA NEWS LETTER - NOVEMBER 2006 WOW, where did the year go? Sometimes it is hard to remember that we only have approximately six months of drive-in time to Scare Canyon due to the weather conditions.
It appears the main problem we had this year was with the water from the lower spring. We have spent over 75 man-hours trying to find the plug - but to no avail! We seem to get it fixed and have water flowing and then by the following weekend it is plugged again. As a temporary measure water was supplied to the second gate from a private source. We intended to replace approximately 400 feet of pipe but the weather did not cooperate. While on the “replacement pipe” subject, the poly pipe was laid out across the ground to get the coiled kinks out of it, and then a blue/white full sized mid. 80’s Bronco or Blazer drove over the pipe twice - right up to a NO TRESPASS sign, and then drove off-road around the sign. I guess the driver has eye sight problems!!!!!
The wet weather did not help with our gravel either - PLUS the condition of the Ant Flat road was so bad that the truck driver did not want to risk either his truck or kidneys any more! We will start again next year as soon as we can.
The fire people did do a demonstration on the Funk and Coffman properties however it was it was done on very short notice and during the workweek. We currently hope to have someone from the fire department talk at the November meeting and maybe even have “before and after” pictures from the demonstrations.
Starting with the year 2007, the VISITOR PASS will change colors each year and have the current year identified on the pass. So when you pay your dues, be sure to get enough visitor passes for your guests. Without a current visitor pass or vehicle decal, the party is considered to be trespassing.
While you are getting the snow off your driveway take a break and read over the by-laws, if you see anything that should be clarified or have a suggested change, send it to me at e-mail address: derlmae@juno.com. I would like your input before next year.
Preliminary indications are that overall it was a very “crappy” year for hunting, with very little game taken. What are your recommendations, ideas, and suggestions to improve the hunting? It seems that with the deputies from Cache County being present within Scare Canyon, we had very few problems. Travel off roads by motorized vehicles was greatly reduced. As members, it is our responsibility to keep our eyes open and report any violators to a board member. This is an all year task, not just during the hunting season.
Well, November is when we will be electing three positions on the board for three years. We want people who can serve to support the best interests of the association. If you cannot work for the betterment of the association, please do not accept the nomination. There are at least ten meetings that require your attendance per year.
Once again, let us know how we can improve the association for all members and check out our web site at www.scarecanyon.com.
Have a great holiday season and be safe. Derek Hunwick
